Many courses teach Lean concepts but leave out the necessary skills for aligning Lean activities with strategic objectives, solving real process problems and continuously improving operations. The Lean Practitioner course moves beyond knowledge into the realm of application—teaching you a blend of basic and intermediate techniques that you can apply in any industry.

The Lean Practitioner Certification Course includes a two-day Lean fundamentals bootcamp. Participants may choose to enroll in the bootcamp or the entire five day course if they would like to leave with an intermediate skillset and certification.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of this course, participants will be able to:

Lean Practitioner Bootcamp

  • Identify the 8 types of waste
  • Identify Value
  • Learn how to use a Value Stream Map
  • Strive for Perfection

Lean Practitioner Certification

  • Understand flow tools
  • Understand pull tools
  • Understand daily management
  • Will have an understanding of Lean & Six Sigma

In order to receive certification, participants must actively participate in all five days of training and pass Lean Methods Group’s Lean Concepts and Tools exam.

What is a Lean Practitioner?

These part-time resources carry the language of Lean deeper into the organization. They support and sometimes lead smaller scale projects, and also assist Lean Leaders and Lean Masters with team activities and tool application. Lean Practitioners become local advocates for continuous improvement and problem solving, and accelerate number of employees positively affected by Lean.

Lean Practitioner Bootcamp

The Lean Practitioner Bootcamp will teach participants how to map the processes, steps, or sequences that a product or service goes through in a company. It will also teach participants to create value for their customers. In Lean terms, value is always defined by the customer, and there are three ways to categorize value: 1) Non-value add activity, known as waste, or muda in Japanese. 2) Value-add activities, which are essential, and 3) business non-value add activities, which are things that must be completed but don’t add value to the customer, such as meeting regulatory requirements. Another key focus during this bootcamp is on how to eliminate waste.

Lean Practitioner Certification

The Lean Practitioner Certification course will teach participants tools to improve the flow of information with fewer delays and disruptions. It will also teach participants to avoid having excessive inventory, allowing businesses to respond more quickly to customer requirements. The advanced course will also dive in Kaizen concepts, concepts that are about rapid improvement. Kaizen is a component of Lean that is designed to break down the project mentality of an organization and create a bias toward action. A Kaizen event is planned and structured and enables a group of associates to improve some aspect of their business quickly.
